Community Monthly Mixtape Project & Community Music Therapy Gathering
Join us each month as we follow the theme and intention that carries us through our group sound work in a format that uses community collaboration to connect with a greater reach. Inviting ideas, new experiences, new perspectives, and unifying acceptance. Through this project we remember that sound works in many ways - the organization and expression that music gives can be equally as powerful as sound integration work; particularly when driven by a unifying intent.
What's in it for you? A resource available (for free!) for you to use and reflect on when you need it. A chance to be part of an intentional, judgement-free community project designed to lift us all higher and give us an outlet for expression. A place to listen and a place to be heard.
Monthly themes will be shared below - song contributions can be shared via facebook, instagram, or email. Mixtape song lists and a Spotify playlist will be shared at the end of each month. (Songs will simply be listed - I will not be sharing the names of those who share them. If you want to include a sentence or two about why the song relates for you, I will include it with the song list, but this is not necessary!)
MONTHLY MIXTAPE MEETUP! Join us in person at the end of each month to gather, create community connection, and discuss the theme and song selections even more in depth. In this opportunity for connection we will share and listen to the songs that were compiled to the monthly mixtape, discuss the theme & intent, and open up channels for perspective shifts, chances to be heard, and supportive acceptance. Time will also be provided for anyone who wishes to share anything related to the monthly theme (songs, poems, artwork, food, etc., etc., etc.) or to simply sit back and just be. Picture the magic of lying on your teenage bedroom floor listening to your favorite tunes combined with sharing unique and new themes and perspectives. Like a book club, but music.
The only "rules":
1. No judgement - you don't have to like a song or a genre to take the intent or emotion of the choice. This is an amazing opportunity to practice discernment, widen perspectives, and maybe even surprise yourself!
2. Understand that this list is for anyone & everyone - please use your best judgement when sharing a song. Explicit lyrics will be considered based on lyrical intent and flow, and will always be offered as a side list for exploration with each mixtape even if they do not make the official playlist.
3. Your experience and perception is yours alone - there is a reason your song selection fits for you. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to dive deeper!

CURRENT PROJECT
September 2026: BREATHE

Welcome visitors to your site with a short, engaging introduction.
Double click to edit and add your own text.
September's theme is: BREATHE
verb: to inhale & exhale air using the lungs;
to be alive/live;
to pause to rest or regain breath
Following the energy of the moment,
the theme for September's Community Mixtape is BREATHE.
Something a little different this month...
Not only will you get a great playlist,
but also a tangible resource to use alongside Box Breathing,
an intentional breathing technique that can help to slow your breathing, decrease stress and anxiety, and calm your nervous system.
Paired with preferred and intentional music selections,
we add in the support and container that music can provide to:
-provide a structured time frame
-activate the limbic system to shift and support emotional regulation
-use dynamic and tempo support to coordinate the flow of breath
Considerations for this Project:
-the faster the song, the more activating the breath.
Consider how you're aiming to feel...
Grounded and Relaxed?
Focused and Clear-Headed?
What song supports where you're trying to be?
Would it help to start at one tempo and then shift to something slower?
Why Box Breathing with Music?
Box breathing can easily and quickly shift you from a state of stress and anxiety into a state of regulation, focus, and clarity.
Bringing you inherently into the current moment and out of your head.
Choosing preferred music to support your mood
and where you want to be provides a perfect container:
-provide a structured time frame
-activate the limbic system to shift and support emotional regulation
-use dynamic and tempo support to coordinate the flow of breath
Any Contraindications?
-fast breathing has the potential to mimic panic.
Mid range/slower tempos will better support your nervous system.
Consult with your doctor if you:
-are pregnant
-have respiratory or chronic heart conditions
-are dizzy/lightheaded
REMEMBER:
Box breathing is meant to be an easy and highly accessible resource to use in any situation & is naturally supported by music.
I am not a breathwork practitioner.
If you are looking for more information
on how certain breathing techniques can support your wellness,
please consult a trained and certified Breathwork Practitioner.
(my personal recommendation is Julie Banashak. She is truly amazing.

If it isn't working for you, or you feel dizzy or lightheaded...
PLEASE STOP.
Breathe naturally and listen to music that you know feels good to you.
We're all built differently - follow what works for YOU.
This will be a resource for you to find and share songs that you find work well with the Box Breathing Technique.
Try it out, and send me a song that works for you!
You may find that song elements may support the experience as well
- not just the tempo!
Have fun.
Feel good.
That's the whole point.
As always, this can show up differently for everyone - I encourage you to embrace it, trust yourself, and show your originality. Song shares remain anonymous unless you choose to share at the Mixtape Music Therapy Gathering. Share and listen with an open mind, open heart, and welcome those perspective shifts! We're all in this together - you're never alone.
There are no rights or wrongs - this is uniquely your outlet within a collective community experience. Any song at all that resonates with this theme or simply feels like it may relate.
If you have a song that feels like it fits - send it my way!
(As this is project has a large & varied reach,
songs with overly explicit lyrics & themes are always welcome,
but may be listed as honorable mention)
Message me via email, facebook or instagram and I will compile a list throughout the month.
PLEASE HAVE ALL SONGS SUBMITTED BY SEPTEMBER 29
There will be NO Community Mixtape Music Therapy Gathering
for September. Breathe, regulate, and enjoy your days!
Thanks for joining in - have fun!
